Amy and John’s Scripps Seaside Forum Wedding with I Do…Weddings

About seven months prior to their wedding, Amy and John contacted us for help with the key details of their big day. From the beginning, they wanted a beach wedding with an elegant feel. When they discovered the Scripps Seaside Forum, they knew it was a perfect fit!

We immediately began working closely with the couple, as well as and Amy’s mom, Nancy. Throughout the process, we provided planning assistance, vendor recommendations, design support, time and budget management, and layout development for this gorgeous wedding.

When the day finally arrived, John looked dapper in his bow-tie. Amy was breathtaking in her floral embellished wedding gown.

One of our favorite moments of Amy and John’s day was seeing them meet for their “First Look.” There’s always so much anticipation leading up to this happy moment, and we were honored to be a part of it.

John’s groomsmen had such a fun (and irreverent) sense of humor! Each member of the wedding party added to the comfortable feel of the day!

A beautiful canopy, provided by Blush Botanicals, gave a romantic beach flow to the ceremony. The overhead market lighting added a cool, outdoorsy vibe.

Inside the Forum, we draped the back wall and added uplights, giving a soft romantic feel to the room. For an extra personal touch, guests were presented with mini picture frames, which served as their table place card holders. Guests were encouraged to take these frames home to help remember the special day.

Once the sun set, we turned on special spotlights that shot out toward the ocean. These lights made the coastline visible in the dark, and allowed for great photo opportunities.

A Vibrant Wedding at Rancho Bernardo Courtyard | Coordinated by I Do Weddings

We recently had the opportunity to work with a lovely couple, Christina and Eric! Our role was to help to coordinate their ceremony at Corpus Christi Church, followed by a reception at the Rancho Bernardo Courtyard. The two events were a beautiful blend of traditional and modern, which perfectly describes them as a couple.

To give the ceremony a cheery, but very traditional feel, we paired a beautiful “sapphire blue” hue with pops of color.

After the ceremony, everyone let loose and atmosphere was playful. It was so much fun to see Eric and his guys mugging for the camera in this photo! We love the expressions of their alter egos!

We always enjoy when our couples choose vibrant colors because bright tones photograph so beautifully. Christina and Eric chose a bold palette of a sapphire blue, yellow and orange, which was a wonderful alternative to a traditional fall palette (such as red, orange and yellow). From the bridal party attire to the floral arrangements, to the table tops at the reception, the colors popped!

For a modern spin on a wedding guestbook, Christina and Eric’s guests marked their thumbprints on a canvas wedding tree. We adored this interactive option, which was personalized to include their names, wedding date and a sketch of their pup!

We always say that some of the most inventive touches at a wedding are the most simple and practical, particularly when they are a reflection of the couple. This wedding had a “school” theme, with tables named after graduation years, books as centerpieces, and a cute pop quiz for guests to fill out. Guests even found their seating arrangements by looking at a tagged pencil!

Christina and Eric also included other interactive features, such as customized photo backdrop, complete with a photographer and props!

From start to finish, Christina and Eric’s wedding was truly about them and the love they share. We enjoyed every moment, working with these two incredible people.

A Bayfront Wedding at the San Diego Rowing Club with I Do Weddings

As a wedding coordinator, I sometimes get the special treat of helping my dear friends carry out their big day. I recently had the chance to work with my friends Bob and Diana for their wedding at the San Diego Rowing Club.

Diana and I went to high school together, and one of Diana and Bob’s very first dates was my wedding. I adore these two, and because of our history, my involvement in this wedding went above and beyond a couple/consultant relationship. I even held their rehearsal dinner in my home!

Although Diana and Bob now live in Los Angeles, they met in San Diego, and lived here for a long time. They selected the Rowing Club as their wedding venue because of its long history in San Diego, and its incredible bayfront location. Their wedding definitely achieved the outdoorsy, fun, and relaxed vibe they were going for.

Diana and Bob had a really clear vision of exactly what they wanted. They also leaned on me for recommendations, creative ideas, and floral design. Because we were using white florals, I grew succulents in my backyard to accent the bouquet.

Diana’s father helped the couple to design a neat backdrop for guests to take fun photos, which would later be turned into a guest book. With the photo station placed near the bar and water, it was fun all night!

The bay and boats added a really fun texture to portraits, and I heard a ton of guests commenting how “San Diego” the wedding felt.

My husband Brett is a jeweler, and he helped Bob with Diana’s gorgeous ring and wedding band. I was really lucky to be there for the proposal, and each step of the process.

Diana and Bob did an excellent job keeping true to their vision, and putting the focus in areas that were important to them, like good music, food and photography!

Weather-wise, it was a beautiful night, so it was really great to watch everyone relax in a really comfortable atmosphere.

A few weeks before the wedding, the couple came to my home to drop off supplies. They spied sparklers, and I had to fib — telling them they were for another client. It was a fun surprise for the end of the night!
