Will you put a hold on a specific date for us?

Yes. We are happy to put a soft hold on the date for you. Before you request a soft hold, we ask that you be completely interested in booking our studio, and just need to finalize your plans. The soft hold means that if another person calls inquiring about booking on the same date, we will let you know, and give you the opportunity to book before we book with them. However, if a couple books the date online without speaking with us on the phone, we would have to give the date to the other couple.

Since dates do fill up, and can be booked at any time, we suggest booking as soon as you have made the decision to hire our studio, even with a soft hold in place.

Will you photograph the rehearsal?

We have been photographing for many years and always go through the wedding timeline about one month before the big day :) The rehearsal's intention is to ensure that the bridal party, couple and family know when and where they are to walk down the aisle. As photographers, we will be in position and will be ready to capture the event as in unfolds. As for photo opportunities, we suggest saving the ceremony pictures for the actual wedding day.

Many couple's will have a rehearsal dinner afterwards, which we are more than happy to photograph. It is a nice opportunity to capture really fun images, as well as a great way to get to know the entire family better before the wedding day. The rehearsal dinner rate is counted as regular booking time, and there is a two hour minimum. If you are wanting coverage of the rehearsal dinner, we suggest you add the number of hours needed for the dinner to the total wedding day hours when booking us online at this link.

When you book us for a rehearsal dinner shoot, we guarantee that it will be photographed by one of our True photographers on our team. Also, whenever possible, we try to have your wedding day photographer be your rehearsal dinner photographer, depending on availability.

Will tax be added to my photography contract?

There is no tax when using our direct download solution, which enables you to download all your images online, all at once, at no additional cost. The images are uploaded to a free download link, with a step-by-step walkthrough guide explaining how to access and download the files.

If we are required to deliver a physical product, such as a Flash drive, we are happy to do so. However, in many cases, tax must be charged on the whole package. So in most instances, direct download will be the fastest and most cost-effective solution.

Will images be available for viewing online?

Yes! Within 26 business day from your wedding, a private gallery website containing every image is created for you and your guests. This enables everyone to view and order images from the big day!

Who is my photographer? Do I choose my photographer?

One thing that makes our studio truly unique is that we have created a consistent and very established brand. The photographers that we bring on are all a natural fit to our True Photography look. What we have done over the past fifteen years is found the very best and elite photography talent. No matter how long they have been photographing (minimum 5 years pro), each photographer goes through our own extensive program to make sure they understand fully what is expected of them when capturing photos within True Photography. Then it is just about fine tuning, rather than re-inventing the photographer.

Because we have our system in place, the reality is that no matter who your photographer is within our studio, your end result will be very similar. Granted, photography is an art form and no humans are exactly alike, so there will always be variations, depending on the couple, the location, the lighting that the day brings, etc. But because of the program we built, it would be very difficult to distinguish the difference between our shooters. If you like one of us, you will like all of us. That is the beauty of a solid brand and a team working together.

There are so many advantages here for you. If God forbid a photographer were to get sick or injured, or had a family emergency the day before your wedding, we would have a seamless solution in minutes. We would get one of our top photographers that is on call that day, and they would be ready to go at a moment's notice. Zero stress :)

Here's another scenario. Let's say that you loved the work, but maybe the personalities didn't match up perfectly with your photographer when you spoke or did the engagement shoot. That is no problem. We would just make a switch on request to one of our other available photographers. This of course won't happen, as we are equally as picky on finding amazing personalities as amazing talent. We believe you will love everyone on our team as much as we do! However, we feel it's vital that you have flexibility with us, and never feel stuck.

The end reality, to say maybe a bit bluntly, is that it doesn't matter who you get in our studio. It just matters that you get our studio. When you visit our site truephotography.com, you'll see that we have showcased every wedding from the past five years to really show our consistency. If you love what you see overall on our site, that is exactly what you can expect from us.

Once booked, we personally assign your photographer based on availability, experience level at your venue, etc. Within 48 hours, they will be in touch via phone and email so that you can get to know them on a personal level, and ensure that everything is perfect :)

When we receive our pictures after the wedding, what format will they be in?

Your pictures are guaranteed to be ready for viewing and up to the True Photography standards within 26 business days. We will post them online with a private password that you can share with your friends and family to view the images. Your images will also be provided digitally by direct download (or in some instances, on a  flash drive) in full resolution, without a watermark. This will allow you to print anywhere without limitation.

When I order a wedding album, how does the image selection work?

You have two options with image selections - use our complimentary selection service (included), or choose out your own images. Here is an explanation of each option:

  • Option A (strongly recommended): "Please choose for me" - Once we receive your order, our design team hand-selects, retouches, and sequences the images to be included, and lays out each spread to best tell the story of the day. This is the easiest way to have a beautiful album in the shortest amount of time.
  • Option B: "I will make my own image selections" - If preferred, after placing your order, you will be the one making the image selections. This involves reviewing and evaluating the entire event photography for album potentials, and choosing out the final images to be included (6 - 8 hour time commitment on average). Your image selections will be considered final, and we will design around your chosen images.

When does it make sense to use a fish eye lens in wedding photography?

If there is a reason to do it, then it's cool. But it's very easy to abuse the fish eye lens. There has to be a reason. If you're doing it just to do it, that's where it can become gimmicky. We feel that a fish eye works well if you want to get an overall shot of the venue or all of the guests. It's also fun to use if you want to get a silly shot. For example, a dog wearing a tuxedo close up, or a goofy shot of the groomsmen. But it's not a flattering lens where a bride will say "Wow, I look amazing!"

We feel that using a fish eye lens more than two or three times in a wedding is pushing it. There are other ways to be creative.

When do you decide to make a photo look soft and romantic? What techniques do you use to get it to look that way?

When we create photographic effects such as a soft focus, we like most of the blurring to happen with the lens, in the moment. We typically don't like to add blurring effects later in Photoshop because we feel it can look a little cheesy.

The use of long lenses and a large aperture will create a natural blur of the background. During the wedding, we spend some of the time shooting with nice long lenses. This allows us to keep a little more distance while still getting a tightly cropped picture.

What’s the best photography-related advice you’ve been given?

Aaron Feldman says, "My grandfather always told me to choose one direction that you can keep close to your heart, and that will have impact on peoples' lives. For me, weddings are a very big defining moment. Not just for the couple, but for the entire group of family and friends that are there to witness the special day."

What would you say is the biggest reason for the success of True Photography?

We demand happiness! When you hire us, we make sure that you are not only happy with your pictures, but that you are happy with your entire experience. Keep in mind that you're hiring a business as well as a photographer :) It's important that the business is run well, and that we're fair, on time, and keep all of our promises.

We like to say that there's no such thing as "that's just good enough." We aim for perfect. Everyone involved in your wedding genuinely cares about the results, from the retouchers, to the designers, to the studio manager, to the photographers. Everyone here is very friendly, fun, creative and professional, while also being very technically smart.

We understand the importance of your big day. We believe that everything should be exceptional, and we strive to make it that way!

What will the photographers wear the day of the wedding?

Our formula for what to wear is to look professional, and to blend in. We don't want to under-dress where we stand out in a negative way, and we don't want to overdress and be fancier than the guests or wedding couple. We make sure to ask about your dress attire for your guests, and then follow suit. If your occasion is black tie, we will go black tie. If you're on the beach, decked out in Tommy Bahama and flip flops, we will be right there with you.

What type of camera do you shoot with?

We use the top of the line cameras and lenses from Nikon and Canon. These cameras range from 16 to 36 megapixels, and produce raw files that are around 40-60 megabytes each. We always have lenses that range from 20mm to 200mm.

Having the right equipment is very important. But the real quality of the images depends on the skill of the photographer. It is the brain behind the camera that makes all the difference. If the photographer can get amazing results time after time with an iPhone, then the process getting there doesn't really matter. (FYI, there is no way to get equivalent amazing results with an iPhone.)

What kinds of takeaways do we get after the engagement shoot as well as the wedding?

What we include in your package are high-resolution, enhanced, digital files of all of the images. We feel that providing a digital file is way more powerful than a print. Having the file itself allows you to print a hundred of the same picture at any size if you wish, without having to pay our studio every time.

Of course, we would be happy to print up images for you. We offer professional printing and fine art printing through our online store. If you have accumulated studio credit from our registry solution, or other means, you are welcome to apply this credit to cover any print purchase.

At your preference, you may also print your image files at any reputable photo lab outside of our studio. It is completely up to you.

This question was submitted by our reader Anny :)

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?

We photograph with the top of the line Nikon and Canon digital cameras. Our lenses range from wide angle to telephoto. We photograph with the top level flash cards and always back up the files. As an extra precaution, each photographer brings two camera bodies, so that we have extra gear ready to go.

What is your turnaround time for completing my wedding pictures?

We have a very fast turnaround time! Our guarantee is that your images will be ready for viewing within 26 business days following your wedding. Typically we post the images online first, with with a private password, so you can share them with your friends and family. We also prepare a digital download just for you, so you can download your images all at once, and email the link directly to you :) The download images are high-resolution and non-watermarked, which will allow you to print anywhere without limitation.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your vendor meal?

We will rarely take any break while photographing a wedding.  It is different from the stand job where you will have two paid 15 minute breaks and then take a lunch on your own time. We stay on our feet, working hard, and keep moving quickly throughout the day.

If a booking spans over 11:00am - 1:30pm and/or 5:00pm - 7:30pm, it is required that a meal be provided by Client for each contracted photographer. This enables us to stay nearby, eat fast, and go right back to shooting as soon as we are finished. A well fed photographer will certainly take better, more energized photographs as they have the needed fuel :)

Typically, if there are two photographers at the event, one photographer will eat quickly while the other takes pictures. This ensures that nothing is missed. Mealtime is billed straight through, and does not count as a break as that is the one chance for the photographers to take a few moments to take a breather and fill those stomachs :)

What is your photography style?

Our style is often described by wedding couples as timeless photography with an edge. We like to stylize the images while making sure that true emotion shines through. We like to keep things very simple, clean and sophisticated. We want to produce images that stand the test of time and fifty years from now your grandchildren will still think the pictures are cool. That's if cool is still a cool word fifty years from now.

It is also important to have a nice balance. So we produce a nice variety of candids, details, stylized artistic shots, and clean portraits

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

For clients wanting extra peace of mind, we offer an optional Cancellation Coverage that can be added on when booking us. Otherwise, if Clients cancel for any reason, True Photography will not refund any portion of the deposit or payments made prior to the date of cancellation. If Clients cancel within 4 months or less of the wedding date, the entire balance will be owed to True Photography. Clients give permission to charge the credit card that is on file immediately following cancellation.

There are also a number of companies outside of our studio that offer wedding and event insurance policies. Should you purchase a policy from another company, we advise that it be from a trusted source. We also encourage you to find coverage that includes reimbursement for your vendor costs, in the unlikely event your event must be cancelled.
