Charmingly Rustic Wedding | Quail Haven Farm

By, February 17, 2015

Have you ever walked into a wedding and instantly felt like it reflected the couple, and completely captured their dynamic together? Let us tell you – this wedding is so Stan & Ziba. It’s the perfect blend of the Americana boy marrying the Persian beaut!

The event was held at Quail Haven Farm, and the venue’s rustic charm was personalized with touches from both of their heritages. As well, the couple added a touch of vintage wedding elegance. Check out this special day, and how well it suited the happy couple :)

The Ceremony

Quail Haven’s English garden lawn area is naturally tranquil and secluded, making it a very intimate ceremony location. For a touch of delicate beauty, Ziba and Stan added a few floral accents to this outdoor oasis. Instant paradise :)

The Persian-American ceremony kicked off with a Sofre-Aghd, or wedding spread, which is customary in Persian marriage. The elaborate set up included several foods and decorations, each representing an element of life together as newlyweds.  During the ceremony, two sugar cones were softly ground together over the heads of the couple, signifying a “shower of sweetness.”  The couple then participated in American traditions, such as the exchanging of vows and rings.

Our favorite moment was capturing the raw emotion that Stan expressed as he caught his first look of Ziba walking down the aisle. The big kiss at the end of ceremony was certainly magical too!

The Reception

As sparkling twinkle lights illuminated the covered outdoor patio, the daytime ceremony transitioned to a lively nighttime reception. Guests found their seats at tables festooned with wild garden arrangements, and were tempted by the nearby dessert table display.  At the cue of the music, Ziba and Stan made their grand entrance, and went right into their first dance as husband and wife.

The evening that followed was filled with great food, lively music and intervals of wedding traditions. There was even an appearance by a Persian belly dancer, who taught a few moves to the upbeat and joyous crowd! Congrats again to Ziba & Stan! :)

An Engagement Party at the Marina Village | Christina and Joshua

By, January 08, 2013

To change things up a little, we thought we would feature a beautiful engagement party, which was held for a very photogenic couple: Christina and Joshua!

Before planning their 2013 wedding, Christbina and Joshua celebrated their engagement with a party at the Marina Village Center in Mission Beach. Because Christinia comes from a traditional Middle Eastern family, there was no doubt that this party would be lavish, with amazing food and tons of dancing!  From Christina’s gorgeous custom-made emerald dress, to the specialty hand-crafted cocktails, to the six-tier cake, this engagement party was more like a wedding!

Since the walls of the Bayview room at Marina Village are covered in natural wood, the couple wanted to incorporate wood and other natural elements into the decor. With the help of Sandy Konja from Party Planning by Sandy, all of the event details and floral arrangements were executed beautifully.

All of the wood pieces that were used throughout the room were crafted by Christina’s dad and Joshua. Even the wood was homemade – it came from trees cut down from their home in Jamul!

To add a vintage touch to the charming room, the team created handmade linens out of burlap and lace. These were used as table runners, table covers and chair accents.

Because Christina is a very talented pastry chef, the stunning dessert bar treats and the jaw-dropping cake were made by this bride to be!

This celebration was truly a labor of love! Even Christina’s gorgeous green gown was specially made for this fabulous evening. To create the dress, which was handmade in Turkey, the future bride met with the owner of HERMZ in Los Angeles, Jennifer Hermz.

Later, family and friends enjoyed specialty handcrafted cocktails by bartender Leigh Lecap, from San Diego’s popular gastropub Craft & Commerce. The menu included drinks like the Westside Story, featuring mint-and-rosewater-infused gin with fresh lime and sea salt, and Commonwealth Punch, combining gin, vermouth, fresh lemon, grapefruit oleo-saccharum and champagne.
