Highlights of The Ultimate Skybox

Located high above the city on the top floor of East Village’s DiamondView Tower, the Ultimate Skybox (aka the Skybox at DiamondView Tower) is a stunning showcase for some of San Diego’s most breathtaking views. Overlooking Petco Park, the venue sits in the heart of Downtown, within walking distance to many of the area’s popular destinations. When planning your Ultimate Skybox wedding, we suggest reserving time for portraits during the wedding day. This way, we can take incorporate a blend of city and nature landscapes by visiting the Gaslamp District, or cross the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge for waterfront views of the San Diego Bay.

As the day transitions to night, guests can party late into the evening while admiring the venue’s mesmerizing 180-degree view of the glowing Downtown cityscape. The venue’s diverse range of unforgettable views, Metropolitan aesthetic, and proximity to the water make it a fun, unique location for any modern downtown wedding.

When photographing, we love utilizing the modern design of the Skybox and often look for ways to incorporate the building itself into images.

The building's exterior also offers a dramatic option for photos. For the images above, we used the same location but created two completely different looks by switching focal lengths and shifting our angle.

Even on a rainy day, the Skybox has a number of locations to get creative with.

From the park, we like to head over to Petco Park on days without games. Within walking distance, the park provides lots of natural foliage as a contrast to the Downtown urban landscape in addition to an up close and personal view of Petco.

Waterfront Park Wedding | Jessica & Nick

By, May 26, 2016

Waterfront Park is a beautiful locale nestled between San Diego’s vibrant downtown and picturesque harbor. It is also part of the San Diego County Administration Center, an Art Deco-styled building that doubles as a beautiful backdrop. There are themed gardens, civic greens, beautiful fountains, and even a massive playground. Also, because it’s so close to the County building, marriage licenses don’t have to travel very far ;)

Jessica and Nick, who now reside in Seattle, wanted their wedding to be held in Jessica’s home town of San Diego. They chose Waterfront Park because it showcased the beautiful cityscape, and matched their fun-loving personalities. They were even able to bring in food trucks for the reception!

While photographing Jessica and Nick’s wedding, we made sure to take full advantage of the scenery and the vibrant location. We hope you enjoy our selection of images from their big day!

In the photo above, we framed the couple using the leading lines of the playground, and the background skyscrapers. By using shallow depth of field, we were able to draw added focus to the couple.

Jessica and Nick were all about having fun, so we used all of our surroundings as props. This resulted in spontaneous fun photos, like the one below. You will see many more examples throughout their entire wedding!

In the photo below, we actually stepped into the fountain to get a cool angle of this hot couple. We were the only ones with “cold feet” at this wedding :)

A nearby birthday party happened to offer Jessica and Nick some of their remaining pizza (above). It was a definite crowd pleaser, and made for this unforgettable photo!

We are always alert, and ready to capture awesome candid moments. For example, check out the photo above of Jessica’s last-minute tequila shot before the ceremony :)

Groom and Officiant on Tandem Biicycle

To surprise the guests, Nick and his officiant rode in on a tandem bicycle. Because we had two photographers, we were able to capture this hilarious moment from a variety of perspectives.

If that wasn’t enough, the rest of the bridal party including Jessica, rode in on surrey bicycles.

Instead of having an elaborate cake, Jessica and Nick decided to put more of their resources towards an open bar for the wedding. They used a lighthearted hashtag as a reminder to their guests.

For centerpieces, each table was decorated with a colorful fishbowl, which contained actual live fish. One lucky guest from each table got to go home with a new buddy! :)

Although most of the day was overcast, the sun came out like a champion right at sunset, which resulted in memorable photos by the harbor. To create a nice clean sunset photo, we used just the right amount of fill light.

A View of San Diego | Wedding at The University Club | February 22, 2013

By, February 22, 2013

For our Photo of the Week, we bring you this gorgeous overhead image of San Diego. It was captured at Lindsey and Case’s wedding at The Univeristy Club. Fun fact: The University Club sits in the penthouse of San Diego’s second-tallest skyscraper, Symphony Towers, which is just a foot shorter than the One America Plaza building!

This photo captures many iconic San Diego landmarks, including the Bay, the Coronado Bridge and the white “sails” of the Convention Center.  If you look closely, you can see the hills of Tijuana, Mexico along the horizon, and the dome of the future (currently under construction) new Central Library.

Down the center of the photo is 8th Avenue, which takes your eye straight to home plate at Petco Park. And directly in front of the Symphony Towers, you can see the CHASE Bank building, home to San Diego’s Exquisite Weddings Magazine! What other San Diego landmarks can you spot in this photo?
