San Diego Beach Weddings: A Guide for Couples

By, April 21, 2023

Planning the Perfect Beach Wedding in San Diego

San Diego is a popular destination for beach weddings, and for good reason. The mild weather, beautiful sunsets, and stunning beaches make for the perfect backdrop for a ceremony and reception. However, planning a wedding on the beach can be a bit more challenging than a traditional one, so in this blog post, we’ll share some tips and tricks for making it a success.

Timing Your Ceremony for the Perfect “Golden Hour” Lighting

One of the most important factors to consider when planning a beach wedding is timing. The best time is during the “golden hour,” which is the hour before sunset. The warm, soft light during this time makes for a romantic and intimate ceremony or a colorful and vibrant reception. It’s also important to plan for enough time, as the light can change quickly and unexpectedly.

Creating a Simple and Elegant Beach Theme with Decorations and Details

When it comes to decorations and details, less is often more with beach weddings. Simple, natural elements such as shells, sand, and sea grass can be used to add a touch of elegance to the ceremony and reception.

Using Natural Elements like Shells, Sand, and Sea Grass for a Stunning Look

Use candles, lanterns, and fairy lights to add a romantic ambiance. Make sure to discuss your ideas with your wedding planner to ensure they can be executed.

Choosing the Right Attire for a Sandy and Sunny Beach Wedding

When it comes to these sandy events, it’s important to consider the elements and what to wear.

Staying Cool and Comfortable with Light Fabrics and Planning for Inclement Weather

Opt for light, flowy fabrics that will keep you cool and comfortable. Avoid heavy fabrics like velvet and silk, which can be too hot in the sun. Also make sure to bring a change of clothes in case of inclement weather. It’s a good idea to plan your attire well in advance and try on your outfits before the big day to make sure you are comfortable and happy with your choices. You can follow this guide for more beach wedding attire suggestions!

Obtaining Necessary Beach Wedding Permits from Local Authorities

Be sure to check with the local authorities and obtain any necessary permits for hosting your ceremony on the beach.

Avoiding Fines and Cancellation with Early Planning and Proper Documentation

Some beaches may require permits for events and gatherings, and failure to obtain one can lead to fines or even cancellation of your wedding. It’s best to start this process early and make sure you have all the necessary documentation in order.

Conclusion: Planning a Memorable and Stunning Beach Wedding in San Diego

Making use of the beautiful weather, scenery, and setting for a wedding you and your guests will never forget

Beach weddings in San Diego offer a beautiful and unique setting for a ceremony and reception. With the above tips in mind, you can plan a beach wedding that you and your guests will never forget. Have an amazing wedding!

Carlsbad Beach Wedding | Julie and Chad

By, May 12, 2016

Julie and Chad were married at Cape Rey Carlsbad, a Hilton Resort in coastal North County, just outside of San Diego. The resort is located only 150 feet from the beach, which allows couples to enjoy beautiful outdoor ceremonies. The site has an amazing backdrop also  – the Pacific Ocean :) Here are some of our favorite photos from this coastal California wedding celebration.

As Julie got ready for the big day, a fresh sea breeze came in through the windows. We made use of the room’s natural light, giving the photos a bright and airy feel (above).

The ceremony site at Cape Rey is so close to the beach that you can smell the ocean. Since the site is located in a private part of the resort, it is nice and secluded.

Julie and Chad paid tribute to Chad’s Jewish heritage by signing a ketubah (marriage contract), and the officiant sang beautiful traditional Jewish songs under the chuppah (wedding canopy).

To photograph romantic couples portraits, we took full advantage of the resort’s proximity to the beach. For example, the stairs at Carlsbad Beach are directly across the street!

While capturing beach photos with Julie and Chad, we also photographed the cocktail hour, the reception dinner table, and all the beautiful details. This is why two photographers are so essential, because even the most talented shooter can’t be in two places at once :)

During dinner, guests relaxed and enjoyed a sumptuous meal, which was created by Cape Rey’s talented chefs.

In the photo below, we used a long exposure with a high aperture, which allowing the lights in the picture to create a starburst.
