Coronado Community Center Wedding | Carmellee and Alvin

By, June 03, 2016

We recently photographed the Coronado Community Center wedding of Carmellee and Alvin. According to Carmellee, Alvin is a quiet but silly guy, and the perfect compliment to her free spirit. When they first met at work, it was instant butterflies, and love at first sight. This perfectly paired couple chose San Diego as a destination wedding spot, and we were excited to capture amazing images for their big day.

The purple blooming flowers at The Coronado Community Center went along beautifully with this purple-themed wedding.

Because most of the bridal party and guests were also from Sacramento, the event was a little extra special for everyone.

Flower crowns were made available for the guests, which added a playful hippie vibe (below).

During the wedding, Carmellee and Alvin held a coin ceremony, which is an old Filipino tradition. The coins represent prosperity and financial security in each other. For added significance, Carmellee used the coins from her mother’s wedding in the Philippines.

Sweet Details | Matching the Cake to your Wedding Design

By, October 10, 2013

After choosing your attire, linens, flowers and chairs, and creating a cohesive look for your wedding, it’s time to have fun with one last sweet detail – your cake! Many people think of wedding cakes as clean white canvases, often topped with fresh flowers. However, if you’re in the mood for something creative, the options are endless. As you’ll see below, we work with local cake artisans that are extremely skilled at dreaming up elegant, unusual, and whimsical cake designs. The edible works of art that are crafted out of icing texture, patterns and embellishments are simply magical. If you’re looking for your own wedding cake, these skilled cake designers are sure to come up with sweet choices!

Here are a few examples of standout cakes we’ve captured at recent weddings. Check out how perfectly they match the overall feel of the wedding:

With this white and peach cake with draped pearl accents, Flour Power did a great job capturing the essence of Samantha and Brandon’s wedding. The romantic and feminine embellishments paired perfectly with the furniture, decor and flowers at the event.

At their Westgate Hotel wedding, Yvonne and Rudy had a regal and elegant “stacked pillow” cake designed to match the interior design of the venue. This cake had lots of intricate details, including gold draping, braided cords, scrollwork and rhinestone accents.

Sometimes, the cake design is inspired by the architecture of the venue. We love the modern style at Scripps Seaside Forum, and how Sweet Cheeks Baking used the building’s façade as the basis for Danielle and Chris’ distinctive cake .

If you want your cake to reflect more of a theme than an aesthetic, check out the cake Sumi’s Oven crafted for Erica and Nick’s beach-themed wedding. Each cake tier was highlighted by a pastel aqua wave pattern, creating a cohesive, light and romantic beach look.

Another approach to cake design is to work with the natural patterns and textures found in decorative flowers. For example, Authentic Flavors played off the twigs in Amy and John’s centerpieces and added bold navy blue streaks to the cake, giving it a modern and exotic feel.

You can also see the use of floral patterns in Rachel and Ian’s wedding cake. This unique cake, by Cake Ball Love, incorporated the scrollwork used throughout the ceremony and reception, as well as the color purple!

Lastly, we love how Jamie and Jared broke with tradition altogether, and dished up an oversized strawberry shortcake at their outdoor summer wedding. It matched perfectly with the casual, rustic vibe, and added a touch of country charm :)
