Some couples like to choose a particular theme for their engagement shoot. This may involve dressing up as movie characters, getting decked out in sports gear, or embracing a fun historical time period. The engagement shoot theme may even coincide with the wedding day theme! It’s always fun to get styled up and play a role :) Here are examples of recent themed engagement shoots.
Themed Engagements
Del Mar Engagement Session | Chelsea and Brandon
It sounds counter-intuitive, but bad weather conditions often make for the most amazing images. For example, at Chelsea and Brandon’s beach engagement session in Del Mar, the storm clouds were looming, and the sky looked menacing. However, by adding a warm blanket, some champagne, and an adorable dog named Jeter, the clouds were barely noticeable :)
We give props to Chelsea and Brandon for making the most of an overcast beach day. It was a really fun engagement photo shoot, and we are looking forward to their wedding later this year at Luce Loft. Hmm, we kind of hope Jeter will be there!

Old (Town) & Modern (Times) Engagement Session | Emily and Adam
Emily and Adam were looking for an engagement shoot location with distinctive architecture, and a little greenery as well. Because of its historic buildings and romantic atmosphere, they decided on Old Town San Diego. As photographers, we love Old Town because the entire area is charming and fun, and makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. During the session, we were able to incorporate many various backdrops and textures, all within a short block or so.
Emily and Adam let loose and had some fun with this super scary guy. Rawr!
We wrapped up our session with beer at Modern Times, a hip brewery that Emily and Adam love to frequent together. Although only blocks away from Old Town, Modern Times provided a very different look and feel within the same photo shoot.
We are definitely looking forward to Emily and Adam’s wedding later this year at Mt. Woodson Castle in Ramona, CA. Cheers!
