Desert Rose Inspiration Board

By, October 23, 2013

Although the desert may be a non-traditional location for a wedding, it actually works very well. Because it is such a blank canvas, the desert landscape enables you to pursue your own vision, and create a completely unique outdoor wedding venue. A desert background also looks amazing in photographs!

This week’s “desert rose” inspiration board is for the edgy and artistic bride that is full of spice, not sugar. So long to pink, frills and pearls – this bride is motivated by textures, patterns, asymmetry, and elements found in nature. We envision this bride in a sleek, fitted gown that stands out against the golden sand. She is wearing unique copper-and-gold jewelry, which is adorned with semi-precious stones and iridescent opals. For a touch of glam, and to offset her fierce look, she’s rocking metallic snakeskin-print shoes!

Our desert bride’s bouquet consists of assorted flowers with spiky textures, as well as succulents, and a few roses in a coral tone. Because succulents can withstand the heat and last the entire event, they’ll also be used heavily in centerpieces and decor. We envision guests dining on grilled steak and vegetables, fresh fruit, and signature prickly pear margaritas in an open outdoor setting. And after the desert sun has set, and our bride and groom begin their life together, they will have timeless images that tell the story of the day.

Going Green Never Looked So Good | Succulent Wedding Trends

By, June 05, 2013

On any typical day at the True Photography studio, we work with new images that our photographers have captured at recent weddings. With this influx of photos, we have the unique opportunity to spot new trends in the wedding world. We are consistently inspired by the creative ideas of our wedding couples, and the insanely talented vendors they work with!

One of the hottest trends we’re seeing in weddings right now is succulents. These drought-tolerant plants come in a myriad of sizes and shapes, are intriguing to look at, and add a modern touch to any wedding decor. Succulents seem to be popping up in everywhere, including bouquets, centerpieces, escort cards and favors.

Here are just three other reasons why we’ve become huge fans of these little plants:

  1. They’re available all year round, whether you’re planning a summer or winter celebration
  2. They will look just as good at the end of the night as they did at the start.
  3. These eco-friendly gems can be planted after your wedding as a tribute to your big day!

Succulents can stand alone, or work beautifully bundled alongside fresh blooms. For example, succulents add instant beauty and character to traditional florals like peonies or garden roses. The most popular succulents seem to be rosette-shaped, which is due to their captivating layered look, their colorful nature, and distinctive texture.

Grooms are also loving the masculinity that succulents bring to the classic flower boutonniere.

The succulent trend applies to more than just bouquets and boutonnieres. We’re also seeing lush reception centerpieces that blend delicate florals with beautiful succulents. As decor elements, succulents are being creatively displayed as cake embellishments, in orbs and terrariums, and on their own for an earthy elegance.

Succulents have also gained popularity in homes over the past few years, and make beautiful favors for guests. These favors can also double as escort cards for guests to find their seats!
